Tax-Free Hurricane Preparedness Kits

In 2020, 15 states are going to have a tax free holiday and 3 of which includes the hurricane preparedness kits in the tax free items. If you’re living in Alabama, Texas, or Virginia, you can get hurricane preparedness items up to $1,000 tax-free.

The dates of the tax holidays for hurricane preparedness items can be seen in the following list.

Alabama 2020: February 21 – 23

Texas 2020: April 25 – 27

Virginia 2020: August 7 – 9

The maximum cost and the hurricane preparedness items for each state are:

  • Alabama: Hurricane Preparedness Generators up to $1,000
  • Texas: Hurricane Preparedness Generators: $3,000
  • Texas: Hurricane Preparedness Items: $75
  • Virginia: Hurricane Preparedness Item up to $60
  • Virginia: Hurricane Preparedness Generators up to $1,000

If your state isn’t on the list but in danger of hurricanes, it is best to check in with your state’s website. As of February 2020, there have been no announcements for the hurricane preparedness items from other than these three states.

While Alabama, Texas, and Virginia is going to have tax holidays for hurricane preparedness items, other states in the danger zone of hurricanes may suddenly declare tax free days for expenses that go towards preparedness of hurricanes.
